Easy Pickin’s Apple Picking!

Fall in New England is magical. The leaves are fiery-red and golden, the air is crisp and refreshing and its apple-picking time!

All of these things coalesced for us last Saturday afternoon at Easy Pickin’s Orchard (very accurate name, I might say!) in Enfield, CT.

Easy Pickin’s Orchard is a New England family farm that grows everything.  Seriously.  They have pick-your-own apples, berries, peaches, vegetables, flowers, plums, pears, and herbs.  That’s right, herbs.  It’s like walking into the produce section of your grocery store, except you’re walking along rows and rows of locally grown produce at a beautiful family farm…so to say it’s an upgrade is pretty much an understatement 🙂

Chris and I were on an apple mission this time, (we had pie on the brain) but we are definitely planning to come back and try some of the other delicious local produce soon!

There were so many types of apples! It was hard to pick!  Well actually it was easy to pick, but hard to… you get the idea.

Chris (a novice at pick-your-own) made an attempt to find out something about the types of apples on his iphone, but with all the exciting varieties the orchard had to offer I insisted the best course of action was just to dive right in and have some fun picking 🙂

We decided to pick some a lot of Mutsu apples, which we had never tried before but had a rich apple flavor, not too sweet and not too tart and a nice crisp snap.

We thought they’d be great for baking and the leftovers would be delicious to munch on fresh.

I can smell the pie baking already 🙂
